The 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, saw the Tennessee track & field program represented by five Vols, one Lady Vol and UT Director of Track & Field J.J. Clark. The total of five male athletes ties for the most Vols to compete in a single Olympiad.
Clark, who then served as head coach of the Big Orange women's program, was an assistant coach for the U.S. women's middle distance contingent in Beijing. Lady Vol DeeDee Trotter overcame injury to represent America for the second time in the 400 meters. The UT Men were represented by Jangy Addy, Anthony Famiglieti, Gary Kikaya and Leigh Smith. Former Vol, Tom Pappas, also qualified for the decathlon at the U.S. Olympic Trials but was forced to withdraw due to injury.
